Superintendent post remains on ballot STARKEY—“I don’t think there is any next step. The voters have spoken. Unless townspeople want it brought up again, it is settled.” Town of Starkey supervisor Richard Burkaw made the comment days after voters cast 199 for and 307 against the town highway superintendent being appointed rather than elected. Burcaw said when he was carrying his petition to run for supervisor, many people said they wanted the highway superintendent to be appointed. Several months ago the town board voted to place the decision in front of voters. During a public hearing on the matter earlier this year, councilman Bill Holgate said the change would provide a little more board control because the town board is ultimately responsible for the expenditures of the highway department. During discussions that took place at regular town board meetings, members emphasized they had no issues with Louis Seeley, the current highway superintendent. Contacted last week, Seeley said, "Im glad they went with elected. Not for my sake but for the next person in the job. I feel it should be up to the people of Starkey who has the job."		$element(adman,groupads,YatesRight1)$
