Dundee-Bradford falls to Pavilion in sectional final
The Dundee-Bradford girls varsity basketball team played in the sectional final for Class C2, Saturday, March 4 at Rush-Henrietta high school. The BraveScots faced Pavilion and fell 45-36.
Dundee-Bradford came into the matchup with a 13-game win streak, however, Pavilion was able to control the scoring effort by the BraveScots and a number of shots just didn't fall that could have secured the victory.
"Unfortunately today we were a couple of made baskets and a few defensive stops away from continuing this journey," said Coaches Michael Strait and Anthony Yeoman.
The numbers on the scoreboard don't paint an accurate picture of the battle between the two teams on Saturday. While Pavilion did lead every quarter, 16-9, first; 24-15, second; 32-30, third and 45-36, final; the momentum shifted for the BraveScots coming off of halftime.
Mikayla Schoffner recorded the first two points followed by back-to-back baskets by Kendall Parker, bringing the score to 24-21. Pavilion answered with two points before giving up two and then three points to captain Kailey Yeoman, who tied the score at 26-26 with 3:23 left in the quarter. Schoffner then put Dundee-Bradford ahead for the first time in the game with two more points. The quarter would end with the teams only two points apart, 32-30, Pavilion.
The fourth quarter began with Parker tying everything up at 32 before the Golden Gophers drained 10 unanswered points to go up 42-32. Foul shots would seal the game for Pavilion as they added one point and then two points from the charity stripe. Schoffner and Parker each posted two points to the BraveScots total, 36.
"This was an amazing team to be around day in, and day out," said Coaches Strait and Yeoman. "They played for each other, had a level of care for each other, and were just one of those teams you loved to be around. Our team played unselfish basketball trying to make their teammates better each day with enthusiasm, and passion. We are proud of the character this team displayed in the toughest situations of our season."
Parker finished the game with 17 points, Yeoman had 11 and Schoffner added eight. Parker and Schoffner also each had eight rebounds.
The girls end the season with a 21-3 record.
The basketball team advanced to the sectional championship, Wednesday, March 1. The BraveScots defeated the top-seeded Lyons Lions, 69-57 at Canandaigua high school.
Scoring for Dundee-Bradford were Parker with 31 points, Schoffner had 17 and Yeoman added 11. Alissa Eaves contributed six points, while Addie Kendall and Trisha Edmister each had two.
Schoffner also recorded 16 rebounds with four steals. Lily Hall and Parker each had five rebounds. Yeoman added seven assists and four steals.

Watkins Glen loses to Tioga in semifinal game
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team faced Tioga in the Section IV championship, Tuesday, Feb. 28. The final score was 60-48, Tioga, at Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Leading the team were Jacob Yontz with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Joseph Sutterby had 12 points, four rebounds and one steal. Ryan Willett added 10 points and three rebounds. Christopher Simiele posted seven points and four steals.
"They are very talented and well coached and they played a great game tonight," said Watkins Glen Coach Scott Morse. "We started off playing pretty well against a very big, physical team in Tioga. Rebounding was a challenge tonight, but we battled on the boards throughout. The second quarter was rough as we got in foul trouble and put them on the line often to go into the half down ten. I thought our third-quarter comeback was terrific and I thought we had an opportunity to surge ahead, but we went cold there for a stretch and could never get back to the lead. You always want to win,
and even though we fell short, it was still a good game and we were right in it. If it has to end, I'm happy we made it as far as we did."
He added, "I couldn't be prouder of this team and the effort they gave this season. Not too many people saw them going to the sectional semi-finals and competing the way they did tonight. These boys approached every day with a positive attitude, effort, and a great sense of humor. Every member of the team brought so much to the table and made us better. The graduating seniors will be greatly missed as they brought a wealth of experience and talent. I'm sure they will go on to do great things and, I hope, continue to play the game. I think our younger players have a very bright future as well and I know everyone will be back at it before too long."
He concluded by saying, "I can't thank Coach Scott and Coach Fazzary enough for the wealth of knowledge they shared with me this season. It is truly appreciated. I'd also like to acknowledge all the time and effort Coach Diliberto put into
training and supporting the boys. He is simply incredible and we are grateful for his help."
