SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5/24/17

Odessa girls win track and field championship
TRUMANSBURG-The Odessa-Montour girls varsity track and field team won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) small school championship, last week. The boys placed third for small schools.
Nadia Simpson placed second in the 100 meter dash (13.01) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (27.57). Hannah Bruno was third in the long jump (15'3.75"). Kennedy Heichel finished fourth in the pole vault (8'6"). Jaylin Rumsey took fourth in the shot put (29'11") and fourth in the discus (84'10").
For the boys, Andy Fudala took first in the 110 meter hurdles (15.60), second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.18), second in the pole vault (13'9"), and sixth in the 100 meter dash (11.79). Zach Elliott won first in the shot put (45'6.5"), first in the discus (136'9"), and 10th in the triple jump (36'8").
Jake Zimmer was seventh in the 100 meter dash (11.842) and seventh in the pole vault (10'0"). Nick Sgrecci finished eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:26.30). Andy Hartford placed ninth in the 110 meter hurdles (19.54).
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team lost to Tioga, 6-4, in the opening round of Class C sectionals, Thursday, May 18.
Grace Vondracek was 2-for-4, with three RBIs and a triple. Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-3, with one RBI. Lydia Lynch and Isabel Foote were both also 1-for-3. Dasia Herrmann, Foote, Vondracek, Lynch, and Minnier also each posted a single. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out six.
The Indians topped Marathon, 8-7, in the last regular game of the season, Tuesday, May 16.
Breeana Bentley was 3-for-4, with two RBIs and three singles. Vondracek was 2-for-3, with one RBI and two singles. Foote, Herrmann, Megan Jenkins, Lynch, and Kaylee Dudgeon also posted one hit each.
Girls golf
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity golf team placed third at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) tournament held in Waverly, Friday, May 19.
The Indians posted a team total of 449. Waverly took first with 342, while Watkins posted a 419. Seven teams competed.

Watkins Glen runners take first at championship
TRUMANSBURG-The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams competed in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) small school championship, last week.
For the boys, Shawn Rutledge took first 3000 meter steeplechase (10:14.30) and third in the 3200 meter run (10:20.02). Patrick Hazlitt won first in the 800 meter run (2:03.21). Gabe Planty finished first in the 3200 meter run (9:54.99).
Aaron Planty was second in the 1600 meter run (4:42.12), while Casen Weeden placed fifth in the shot put (38'8.25"). Daniel Paradiso was fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:06.20).
For the girls, Julya Slater was seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:51.40). Isobel Scheffey was seventh in the 100 meter dash (13.40).
Kai Sutterby finished eighth in the 800 meter run (2:33.46), while Haley Dean placed ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:18.56). Jena Slater took ninth in the pole vault (8'0").
Boys golf
Watkins Glen's Ryan Clark posted a 93 at the Section IV State Qualifier, Thursday, May 18, at Cornell University. Clark's score fell short of the 85 cutoff to advance.
The Senecas boys varsity golf team fell to Newark Valley, 228-230, in the last dual match of the season, Monday, May 15.
Jacob Carocci led with a low of 42. Clark followed with a 43. Max Schimizzi had a 47, while Sam Hanley golfed 48. Patrick Bannon added 50.
Girls golf
The Watkins Glen girls varsity golf team finished second at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) tournament, Friday, May 19.
Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team lost to Seton Catholic, Thursday, May 18. The final score was 12-9.
Dylan Platon led with three goals.
Pike commits to East Stroudsburg University
Watkins Glen senior Amanda Pike has committed to East Stroudsburg University, a NCAA Division II school in Pennsylvania. Pike, a standout member of the Watkins Glen state champion basketball team, will continue her athletic career at the university. Watkins coach Alicia Learn said "I could not be more proud of Amanda and look forward to watching her play at the collegiate level."

Penn Yan beats Wayland-Cohocton in sectionals
WAYLAND--The Penn Yan varsity baseball team topped Wayland-Cohocton, Friday, May 19. The final score was 11-4.
Brennan Prather was 3-for-5, with three RBIs. Derrick Rivello was 1-for-4, also with three RBIs. Peyton Schuck, Donny McMahon, Robbie Wigsten, and Noah Detar each posted one RBI. McMahon also earned five strikeouts pitching.
The Mustangs fell to Hornell, 17-5, Tuesday, May 16.
Prather was 3-for-4, with three RBIs. Schuck was 2-for-3, with one RBI. Nick Hoover was 1-for-3, with one RBI.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team placed ninth at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championships, Saturday, May 20. The boys finished 17th overall.
For the girls, Joddie Decker took first in the 1500 meter run (5:01.63), second in the 3000 meter run (11:00.83), and eighth in the 800 meter run (2:36.50). Emma Harling placed second in the shot put (30'11") and sixth in the discus (79'2"). Teresa Pietrusinski finished ninth in the discus (78'0").
For the boys, Ben DeMoras was second in the 1600 meter run (4:39.70) and third in the 3200 meter run (10:35.06). Kyle Ingerick placed eighth in the long jump (19'1") and ninth in the triple jump (38'6.5"). Jacob DeMay took 10th in the shot put (35'.25").
Riley Brittingham was eighth in the Pentathlon 1500 meter (5:36.69), ninth in the Pentathlon high jump (4'5"), ninth in the Pentathlon shot put (23'4.5"), 10th in the Pentathlon 110 meter hurdles (24.89), 10th in the Pentathlon long jump (13'0"), and 10th in the Pentathlon overall.
The Penn Yan varsity track and field teams competed in Dundee's meet, Monday, May 15.
For the boys, Ingerick took fourth in the long jump (18'11.25"), fourth in the triple jump (39'.5"), and fifth in the 400 meter dash (55.99). DeMay was fifth in the shot put (34'3.75") and seventh in the discus (90'3"). Emmanuel Morales was ninth in the 100 meter dash (13.77). Peyton Silliman finished ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:29.62).
For the girls, Harling won first in the shot put (33'11") and fifth in the discus (82'8"). Maricruz Morales took fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:10.62) and seventh in the 200 meter dash (30.88). Katie Voak was fourth in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:41.70).
Lizzy Benson finished fourth in the triple jump (29'8.5") and eighth in the long jump (12'3.5"). Pietrusinski placed eighth in the discus (70'7").
Softball
The Lady Mustangs varsity softball team fell to Bath Haverling, Thursday, May 18, in the first round of the Class B Sectional matches. The final score was 13-2. Penn Yan was seeded 13th and Bath fourth.
Boy Lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team fell to Thomas, 9-8, Thursday, May 18.
Conner Fingar led with four goals and one assist. Austin Blumbergs had two goals. Dylan Stape and Brandon Smith both scored once. Will Rogers and Ben Emerson each had two assists. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun posted nine saves, while Kyle Welker had two.
The Mustangs topped McQuaid Jesuit, 9-3, Tuesday, May 16.
Blumbergs scored six goals, with an assist. Smith scored twice, while Fingar scored one. Emerson posted three assists. In goal, Kinyoun earned five saves. Welker had four saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team beat Wayne, 19-10, Wednesday, May 17.
Brenna Voigt led with nine goals and one assist. Hannah Keech earned three goals and two assists, while Elissa Callaway had three goals and one assist. Devin Stahlman scored twice. Sydney Bloom earned one goal and two assists. Alli Olevnik had one goal and one assist, while Cassie Lafler assisted once. In goal, Hanna Brodman had six saves. Alexandra Cox added two saves.
The Lady Mustangs topped East Rochester, 18-5, Monday, May 15.
Callaway led with six goals and one assist. Voigt earned four goals and five assists. Bloom scored twice.
In goal, Brodman posted four saves, while Cox had three.

Dundee track competes at Wayne-Finger Lakes event
SODUS--The Dundee boys varsity track and field team took 18th at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championships, Saturday, May 20.
Tyler Brace was fourth in the high jump (5'8") and 10th in the long jump (18'8.75"). Wylie Hall was sixth in the 200 meter dash (24.43) and seventh in the 100 meter dash (11.78). Josh Cramer took seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.09) and eighth in the 110 meter hurdles (19.08). Leif Hoyt placed 10th in the discus (97'4").
The girls competed, but did not place. Emily Oughterson was 24th in the long jump (13'.5") and 28th in the 100 meter dash (14.97). Tara Bowden took 26th in the shot put (22'5") and 26th in the discus (55'10"). Haillie Knapp finished 28th in the long jump (12'1").
The Dundee varsity track and field teams hosted a invitational meet, Monday, May 15.
For the boys, Hall took first in the 200 meter dash (24.36), first in the 100 meter dash (11.53), first in the long jump (20'7"), and second in the triple jump (40'0"). Cramer placed first in the 110 meter hurdles (18.75) and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.86). Hoyt won first in the discus (102'4"), while Sam Richards tied for first in the pole vault (11'0"). Austin Brace was second in the 100 meter dash (12.19).
Preston Cole finished second in the shot put (36'9.5"). Preston Cratsley was third in the 100 meter dash (12.34) and third in the 200 meter dash (25.25). Tyler Brace was second in the high jump (5'8") and third in the long jump (19'10").
For the girls, Whysper Davis was fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:12.42). Oughterson took sixth in the long jump (12'10.5") and seventh in the 100 meter dash (14.63). Madison Everetts placed sixth in the high jump (4'0"), while Karynna Rutledge was eighth (3'9").
Bowden was ninth in the shot put (24'2.5"). Allison Wilkerson finished 10th in the 400 meter dash (1:15.55). Knapp took 10th in the long jump (12'2.25").
Softball
The Dundee varsity softball team fell in the Class D1 sectional match against Kendall, Friday, May 19. The final score was 7-6. The Lady Scots entered the round as the 10th seed. Kendall was seeded number seven.
Baseball
The Dundee baseball team entered sectionals as the 10th seed and faced number seven Northstar. The Scots lost 10-3, Thursday, May 18.

Lakers win first, lose second sectional game
FIllMORE-The Hammondsport varsity baseball team lost to Fillmore in the second round of the Class D1 sectional tournament, Friday, May 19. Fillmore was the number one seed for Class D1.
Jake Peacock and Kristian Rice recorded hits in the game.
The Lakers, seeded eighth, beat York, seeded ninth, in the first round of sectionals, Thursday, May, 18.
Billy Whitney was 2-for-4, with five RBIs, two runs scored, and two triples. Peacock was 1-for-2 with a double. George Ruddy had six strikeouts pitching.
Golf
Hammondsport's Parker Watson finished fourth as an individual golfer in the Class C sectionals, Saturday, May 20, held at Penfield Country Club. Watson shot a 97 and finished 39th overall in sectionals out of 61 golfers.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team faced Alfred Almond in a doubleheader, Saturday, May 20.
Prattsburgh-Hammondsport won the first game 4-1. Troy Sanford won against Wes Dennison, 10-5. Colin Drain beat Christian Powell, 10-4.
Benjamin Fingar and Rhett Presler topped Wyatt Ames and Conner Griffin, 10-3. Bryce Santacroce and Brendan Wagner beat Isaac Little and Dakota Feenaughty, 10-7.
In the second game, Prattsburgh-Hammondsport won, 3-2.
Drain defeated Christian Powell, 10-3. Fingar and Presler beat Ames and Griffin, 10-2. Wagner and Bryce Santacroce topped Little and Feenaughty, 10-4. Sanford fell 10-8, while Morris lost 10-4.
The tennis team beat Wellsville, 3-2, Friday, May 19.
Sanford beat Hunter Payne, 10-6. Morris and Presler defeated David Newsome and Simon Case, 10-6. Wagner and Fingar topped Tim Rhodes and Devin Beckwith, 10-6. Drain fell, 10-9, while Santacroce lost, 10-2
Prattsburgh-Hammondsport won against Addison, 3-2, Monday, May 15.
Sanford topped Jesse Plumley, 6-0, 6-4. Drain beat Spencer Baker-Hibbard, 6-0, 6-0. Santacroce won against Blake Driskell, 6-1, 6-0.
