SPORTS RECAP: Week of 4/19/17

Penn Yan baseball wins two; girls track takes first
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity baseball team beat Midlakes, 8-1, Wednesday, April 12.
Robbie Wigsten and Noah Detar both recorded two RBIs each, while Jake Whitford and John Travis each had one RBI. Wigsten also had one home run.
The Mustangs' baseball team won against Palmyra-Macedon, 5-3, Monday, April 10.
Wigsten and Payton Schuck both earned two hits and two RBIs. Donny McMahon had one RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, McMahon recorded four strikeouts and Wigsten one.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team took first, while the boys were fourth, at a meet hosted by the Mustangs, Tuesday, April 11.
Allyssa Johnson took first in the 400 meter dash (1:10.14), second in the high jump (4'2"), and third in the 200 meter dash (30.24). Lydia Anderson finished first in the long jump (15'6.25") and second in the triple jump (32'2.5"). Emma Harling took first in the shot put (30'3.75") and first in the discus (75'7"), while Teresa Pietrusinski also was second in the discus (67'2").
Alexis Condrey took second in the 100 meter dash (14.54) and third in the 100 meter hurdles (19.14). Joddie Decker placed second in the 800 meter run (2:37.84), second in the 1500 meter run (5:13.26), and second in the 3000 meter run (11:34.74).
The 4x400 meter relay team (Katie Voak, Johnson, Anderson, and Condrey) won first with 4:44.04. The 4x800 meter relay team (Lizzy Benson, Voak, Maci Nicholson, and Decker) finished third in 11:25.24.
For the boys, Kyle Ingerick took first in the 100 meter dash (12.04), first in the 200 meter dash (24.64), and second in the long jump (19'8"). Ben DeMoras placed first in the 1600 meter run (4:54.64), second in the 800 meter run (2:13.64), and second in the 3200 meter run (10:52.24).
Peyton Silliman was third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.24). The 4x800 relay team (Jason Bogart, Garrett Golden, Daniel Jiang, and DeMoras) finished third in 9:46.24.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team was beat by Lakeland/Panas, 12-4, Saturday, April 15.
Austin Blumbergs recorded one goal and an assist. Brandon Smith, Dylan Stape, and Preston Pedersen each scored once, while Ben Emerson posted one assist. Kyle Welker had 14 saves in goal.
The Mustangs suffered a loss to Westhill, Thursday, April 13. The final score was 10-6.
Conner Fingar led with two goals. Emerson posted one goal and two assists. Blumbergs, Pedersen, and Smith each added one goal and one assist. Welker recorded five saves in goal and Jeff Kinyoun had one save.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team fell to Naples, 3-2, Wednesday, April 12.
Jack Arnold topped Seth Price, 6-0, 6-1. Garrett Warren beat Sonny Leta, 6-2, 6-0. Blaise Cox fell in third singles, 6-1, 6-3. The doubles teams both lost: Jarett Alexander and Eden Slocum, 7-5, 6-0; and Jeremy Fenton and Paul Gaston, 6-1, 6-1.
The tennis team was blanked by Mynderse, 5-0, Monday, April 10.
The singles scores were: Arnold, 6-2, 6-0; Warren, 6-4, 7-5; and Cox, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Alexander and Slocum lost, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Paul Pereira and Gaston fell, 6-4, 6-2.
Girls lacrosse
The Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team lost to Palmyra-Macedon, 12-7, Wednesday, April 12.
Brooke Dinehart and Brenna Voigt both posted two goals each, and one assist. Hannah Keech and Sydney Hulse both scored two goals. Sydney Bloom added two assists.
With the loss, Penn Yan's record is 2-2.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team lost to Midlakes, 12-9, Wednesday, April 12.
The softball team topped Palmyra-Macedon in an away game, Monday, April 10. The final score was 7-6.

Dundee boys win at Penn Yan meet; softball falls
PENN YAN--The Dundee boys varsity track and field team won first in a meet held at Penn Yan, Tuesday, April 11. The girls placed fourth.
Cameron Denmark placed first in the discus (90'4") and second in the shot put (32'9.5"). Sam Richards took first in the pole vault (11'0"), while Leif Hoyt took second in the discus (89'0"). David Lamphier was second in the 400 meter dash (58.74). Josh Cramer was second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.04) and third in the 110 meter hurdles (19.04).
William Hall was second in the 200 meter dash (25.34) and third in the triple jump (39'0"). Billy Bowers was second in the pole vault (9'6"), third in the 400 meter dash (59.14), and third in the discus (86'10"). Preston Cole finished third in the shot put (32'.25").
In the high jump, Karynna Rutledge and Madison Everetts tied for third (3'9"). Emily Oughterson placed fourth in the long jump (13'2.5"), fifth in the 100 meter dash (15.04), and sixth in the 200 meter dash (31.54). Allison Wilkerson was sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:19.24), followed by Whysper Davis in seventh (1:19.94) and Everetts in ninth (1:25.14).
Tara Bowden was seventh in the shot put (22'2.75"). Ella Pollack took eighth in the long jump (12'3.5") and ninth in the 100 meter dash (16.14). Calley Knapp tied for eighth in the discus (49'11"). Elizabeth Medina placed 10th in the triple jump (25'2"). Hallie Knapp finished 10th in the long jump (11'8.5").
Baseball
The Dundee boys varsity baseball team suffered a loss to Honeoye, 19-2, Thursday, April 13.
Bobby Strait went 1-for-2, with a RBI and two walks. Damon Empson hit in Dundee's other run. With the loss, the Scots' record is 0-3.
Dundee's baseball team also suffered a loss to South Seneca, Wednesday, April 12. The final score was 17-0.
The Scots had two hits and six errors. Empson and Strait each recorded a hit.
Softball
The Lady Scots' varsity softball team fell to Honeoye, Thursday, April 13. The final score was 21-5.
Xavia Miller was 1-for-2. Dundee scored all five runs in fourth inning.
Dundee's softball team lost to South Seneca, 13-1, Wednesday, April 12.
The Lady Scots scored their run in the first inning, and were tied with South Seneca at 1-1 until the third inning. Megan Sutherland was 2-for-3, while Miller was 2-for-2.

Prattsburgh-H'port wins 3-2
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team beat Avoca, 3-2, Monday, April 10.
Colin Drain beat Marco Cadario, 6-0, 6-0. Tommy Morris lost to Mike Oliver, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, Drew Stockton fell to Nathan Evans, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Rhett Presler and Benjamin Fingar topped Keylee Trinkle and Cody Wilson in doubles, 6-0, 6-1. Bryce Santacroce and Brenden Wagner beat Isabelle Beecher and Hannah Stewart, 6-0, 6-0.

Baseball team loses two games
ELMIRA HEIGHTS--The Seneca Indians combined varsity baseball team was blanked by Thomas A. Edison, 17-0, Friday, April 14.
The team earned six hits.
The Seneca Indians were beat by Trumansburg, 8-0, Wednesday, April 12.
On the pitcher's mound, Michael Doane struck out four, while Derrick Lewis struck out three.
The Watkins/Odessa team registered a loss to Tioga, Monday, April 10. The final score was 26-1.
Sean Kelly had the Seneca Indians' hit and run batted in, during the third inning.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team placed ninth and the girls 20th at the Molly Dry Memorial Invitational, Thursday, April 13, at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.
Zach Elliott led with first place in the shot put (46'5") and first in the discus (140'2"). Andy Fudala placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles finals (16.39), eighth in the 100 meter dash (12.00) and ninth in the 400 meter dash (56.02). Noah Brewster took eighth in the 800 meter run (2:12.63).
The 4x800 meter relay team (Micah Brewster, Noah Brewster, Alec Betts, and Nick Sgrecci) took fifth in 9:26.76.
For the girls, Jaylin Rumsey was fifth in the discus (85'11") and ninth in the shot put (30'5"). Nadia Simpson finished seventh in the 100 meter dash (13.65) and 10th in the high jump (4'6").
Hannah Bruno was eighth in the triple jump (30'10"), while Hannah Chapman took ninth in the high jump (4'6"). Casey Underdown placed 10th in the 1600 meter run (6:07.83).
The 4x100 meter relay team (Bruno, Simpson, Meagan Terry, and Hunter Daugherty) placed ninth in 56.34.

Watkins lacrosse falls, 21-18; softball loses
WATKINS GLEN-The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team lost to visiting Notre Dame, Monday, April 17. The final score was 21-18.
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team suffered a loss to Candor, 8-1, Monday, April 17.
On the pitcher's mound, Claudia Parker struck out five and walked one.
The Senecas' record is 0-5.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams competed at Newark Valley, Thursday, April 13. The boys fell to Chenango Forks, 57-46, and Newark Valley, 91-37. The girls topped Chenango Forks, 39-25, but lost to Newark, 126-13.
"WG competed with a depleted team because of spring break and injuries," said Coach Rod Weeden. "Only half the boys team was available. The girls pulled off a win against Chenango Forks which was unexpected, just because of low numbers. Although the girls team is small, those competing are good at what they do."
For the girls, Kai Sutterby was first in the 800 meter run (2:37.9). Jena Slater took first in the pole vault (7'0"). Isobel Scheffey placed second in the 100 meter dash (13.4) and second in the 200 meter dash (28.9). Julya Slater took third in the 1500 meter run (5:59.5) and third in the 800 meter run (2:57.2).
The 4x400 meter relay team (Scheffey, Sutterby, Jena Slater, and Haley Dean) finished second in 4:57.6.
For the boys, Shawn Rutledge was first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.9) and first in the 3200 meter run (10:30.3). Patrick Hazlitt placed first in the 400 meter dash (52.3) and first in the 200 meter dash (24.1).
Gabe Planty won first in the 1600 meter run (4:45.2) and second in the 800 meter run (2:14.7). Aaron Planty took first in the 800 meter run (2:14.7) and second in the 1600 meter run (4:46.2). Casen Weeden finished third in the 100 meter dash (13.2) and third in the shot put (35'4"). Daniel Paradiso was second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.1).
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team lost to Elmira Notre Dame, 6-1, Thursday, April 13.
The Senecas' win came from Dylan Morse in singles, beating Spencer Rayne, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The other scores in singles were: Nathaniel Wickham lost 6-2, 6-1; Clint Craven, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1; and Peter Sandritter, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Megan Hazlitt and Enkang Lin lost, 6-0, 6-1. Kendra Larson and Elise Allington fell, 6-1, 6-0. Bryson Simmons and Ali LaMoreaux were beat, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
