Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

SPORTS RECAP: Week of 4/5/17

Penn Yan girls lose, boys win two
PENN YAN-The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team fell to Lake Shore, Friday, March 31. The final score was 13-11.
Individual stats were not provided.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan varsity lacrosse team topped St. Francis, 14-2, Saturday, April 1.
Austin Blumbergs led with four goals and one assist. Conner Fingar and Colton Smith both recorded three goals, while Fingar also had three assists. Brandon Smith scored twice, while Dylan Stape and Ben Emerson both scored once. In goal, Kyle Welker earned 11 saves.
The Mustangs' lacrosse team beat Bath, Thursday, March 30. The final score was 7-6.
Blumbergs recorded three goals and one assist. Stape and Fingar both earned one goal and one assist. Emerson and Smith scored once each. Goalkeeper Welker had six saves.

Lakers win, 8-1
HAMMONDSPORT-The Lakers' varsity baseball team topped Canaseraga, 8-1, Wednesday, March 29.
Hammondsport held Canaseraga scoreless until the final inning.
Softball
The Hammondsport girls varsity softball team lost to Canaseraga, 11-8, Wednesday, March 29.
Corinne Mori and Shelby Sherman both recorded two RBIs, while Makenzie Boscoe, Megan Allen and Destiny Hammond posted one RBI each. Hammond also earned a triple.
The Lakers lost to Whitesville Center, 19-1, Tuesday, March 28.
Boscoe recorded a triple and batted in Hammondsport's run. Maja Saltsman had a double.

Dundee softball, baseball teams fall to Red Jacket
DUNDEE-The Lady Scots varsity softball team opened the spring season with a loss to visiting Red Jacket, 8-1, Monday, April 3.
Madison Neu was 2-for-3, with two singles. Mackenzie Strait also added a single. On the pitcher's mound, Megan Sutherland earned nine strikeouts.
Baseball
The Dundee varsity baseball team suffered a loss to Red Jacket, Monday, April 3. The final score was 7-0.
The Scots posted two hits. Both teams had three errors. Bobby Strait was 1-for-2, with a walk.

Odessa boys track team tops Tioga
ODESSA-The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team beat Tioga, 79-62, while the girls lost, 72-65, in a home meet, Thursday, March 30.
Andy Fudala won first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.6), first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.0), and first in the long jump (18'11"). Zach Elliott took first in the shot put (39'10.5"), first in the discus (128'4"), and first in the high jump (5'2"). Nick Sgrecci placed first in the 3200 meter run (11:48.2), while Noah Brewster finished first in the 800 meter run (2:15.9).
For the girls, Nadia Simpson took first in the 100 meter run (13.3) and first in the 200 meter run (29.70). Kennedey Heichel won first in the 100 meter hurdles (18.6) and the pole vault (6'6"). Casey Underdown took first in the 3000 meter run (13:17.5), while Jaylin Rumsey was first in the shot put (26'5.25"). Hannah Bruno finished first in the triple jump (25'11.5").
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team was blanked by Waverly in the first game of the season, Wednesday, March 29.
The Indians' two hits came from Grace Vondracek, a triple, and Breeana Bentley, a single. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out five Waverly batters and had five walks.

Seneca Indians win season opener against Newfield
ODESSA-The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team beat Newfield in the first game of the season, Thursday, March 30. The final score was 15-2.
The combined Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour team earned nine hits to Newfield's four. Austin Voorheis had two RBIs, while Isaac McIlroy, Derrick Lewis, Johnny Neidermaier and Alex Grady each earned one RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, Michael Doane posted five strikeouts. Neidermaier struck out two.
Lacrosse
The Waktins' varsity lacrosse team opened the season with a loss against Marcus Whitman, Friday, March 31.
The final score was 14-6. Marcus Whitman took the lead in the first quarter and led 7-4 at halftime.
Jake Kelly and Jackson Dunham both scored twice for Watkins. Joe Chedzoy and Avery Watson each scored once, while Chedzoy and Dylan Platon assisted once. In goal, Connor Smith recorded eight saves.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen tennis team beat Moravia, 5-2, Thursday, March 30.
In singles, Peter Sandritter won against Jared Justian, 6-2, 6-2. Dylan Morse beat Kaden Hooper, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles, Megan Hazlitt and Makenna Fraboni won, 7-5, 6-0, as did Kendra Larson and Elise Allington, 6-2, 6-4, and Tim Clifford and Ali LaMoreaux, 6-0, 7-5.
Girls golf
The Watkins Glen varsity girls golf team finished third, Thursday, March 30.
Leading the Senecas was Hanley Elliott with a 47. Gabi Decker posted a 50, followed by Courtney Irwin with a 53. Alexis Atchie had a 58. Sarah Swinnerton recorded a 62.
