Penn Yan beats Wayne; wrestling takes ninth
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan girls varsity bowling team topped Wayne, 7-0, while the boys won, 5-2, Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Kari Ayers led with a 656, followed by Emilie Thomas with 531. Emily Augustine posted 427. Brandee Ellis earned 392.
For the boys, Bryce Johnson recorded 663. Zack Blauvelt added 660. Steven Ottaviano earned 589, while Alex Gurba posted 570 and Jacob Whitford 533.
Wrestling
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team finished ninth at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, Jan. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 21.
Jarred Calice (126) placed third, while Damien Snyder (113), Coty Bailey (160), and Alvaro Chavez (170) placed fourth. Nate Elliott (145) took fifth. Cody Allgood (99) was sixth.
Penn Yan fell to Geneva, Tuesday, Jan. 17. The final score was 33-31.
Snyder (113) pinned Svannah Niver in 0:21. Calice (132) beat Andrew Mateo by major decision, 11-1. Caleb Plain (138) won against Beka Bekauri by decision, 11-4. Elliott (145) beat Joe Fletcher by decision, 8-2. Leonardo Chavez (195) topped Luis Vega by decision, 6-3.
Bailey and Allgood won by forfeit.
Boys basketball
The Mustangs' boys varsity basketball team topped Midlakes, 51-37, Friday, Jan. 20.
Desmond Battin scored 18 points. Dylan Stape followed with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Derrick Riviello added nine points, all three-point shots.
Penn Yan's record is 8-6.
Penn Yan lost to Palmyra-Macedon, 66-49, Tuesday, Jan. 17. Stape led with 20 points. Battin recorded 11 points.
Girls basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team beat Midlakes, Friday, Jan. 20. The final score was 67-58.
Sydney Bloom led with 17 points. Hannah Keech had 15 and Lizzy Lafferty 11. Emalee Rose Brockman and Elissa Callaway each had eight, while Emma Harling added four. Cassidy Prather and Brooke Dinehart recorded two points each.
With the win, the Lady Mustangs' record is now 8-6.
Penn Yan's girls beat Palmyra-Macedon, 54-44, Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Keech scored 21 points, followed by Bloom with 12. Callaway recorded 11 points. Lafferty added six and Brockman contributed four.
The Lady Mustangs basketball team was beat by Aquinas, 63-52, Monday, Jan. 16.
Bloom recorded 25 points. Keech added 12, while Brockman had six and Lafferty five. Prather scored two.

Dundee basketball falls to Honeoye; boys beat HAC
DUNDEE--The Dundee boys varsity basketball team lost to Honeoye, Friday, Jan. 20. The final score was 69-45.
Bobby Strait scored 17 points. Wylie Hall added 14. With the loss, Dundee's record is 8-5.
Dundee's basketball team was beat by Marcus Whitman, 64-35, Wednesday, Jan. 18. Hall scored nine points. Kyle Cratsley added seven.
Girls basketball
Dundee's girls varsity basketball team fell to Marcus Whitman, 63-26, Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Mackenzie Strait led with 13 points and eight rebounds. Madison Neu had five points and nine rebounds. Emily Oughterson, Megan Sutherland, and Delaine Nolan each scored two points.
Wrestling
Dundee's varsity wrestling team was 16th in the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, Jan. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 21.
Damon Empson (138) finished second in the championship final. Paul Knapp (106) and Joseph Dillon (285) both finished sixth.
Bowling
The Dundee boys varsity bowling team blanked Harley Allendale Columbia, 7-0, Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Jared Hartman led with a 557. Collin Goodman posted 481, followed by Connor Muck with 417. Julian Heavner Ortiz recorded a 338.
The girls lost, 7-0. Liz Medina bowled a 389. Tara Bowden added 366. Faith Switzer earned a 338.

Lakers lose to Bradford, 39-31
HAMMONDSPORT-The Lakers' boys varsity basketball team lost to Bradford, 39-31, Friday, Jan. 20.
Brayden Whitcomb led with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Parker Watson followed with seven points, four rebounds, and four steals. Hammondsport's record is now 4-10.

Odessa-Montour wrestlers win division title
WHITNEY POINT-The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed fourth in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) League Tournament held at Whitney Point, Saturday, Jan. 21.
Jeremiah Lynch (160), Cameron Pickering (170), and Dylan Houseknecht (285) all finished second for the Indians. Jacob Zimmer (145) and Alex Repass (220) placed third, while Collin Haag (138) finished fourth. Deshawn Johnson (182) took fifth and Josiah Lynch (106) sixth.
The Odessa wrestlers claimed the IAC Division II Championship after beating Lasing, 48-29, Wednesday, Jan. 18.
The Indians completed their last division dual match for the year with a 5-0 record, having already beat Moravia, Marathon, Thomas A. Edison, and Groton. This is the first division championship for Odessa since 1984.
In the match against Lansing, Zimmer (145) topped Jason Whiting in 0:21. Jeremiah Lynch (160) beat Thor Wierson in 0:53, while Pickering (170) won over Bryce Eastman in 1:40. Johnson (182) pinned Cole Vanerpol in 0:25.
Repass (220), Houseknecht (285), Josiah Lynch (106), and Andrew Hartford (120) won by forfeit.
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team topped Tioga, Friday, Jan. 20. The final score was 49-47.
Gillian Clark led with 22 points. Olivia Grover recorded seven points, four blocks, and eight rebounds. Nakiaha Robinson contributed seven points. Alexis Saunders earned six points, while Sara Gardner scored four. Kennedey Heichel added three points.
"I was proud of our effort down the stretch," said Coach Greg Gavich. "Lexi Saunders gave us a big spark there in the third quarter (all six points) and Olivia made two huge defensive plays down the stretch with the blocked shot (up 47-45) then with the rebound on the final shot."
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Newark Valley, Saturday, Jan. 21. The final score was 50-47.
Curtis Harris scored 24 points, while Zach Elliott had 13. Nick Sgrecci, Noah Austin, and Jon Andrews recorded three points each.
The Indians beat Tioga, 58-53, in an away game, Thursday, Jan. 19.
Harris recorded 31 points, while Elliott followed with 15. Austin scored six. Brandon Ray and Sgrecci both earned three.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour boys and girls varsity bowling teams lost to Watkins, Friday, Jan. 20.
The boys lost, 3-1. Eric Rumsey led with a 536. Alex Grady had 505. Andrew Ink bowled a 482, while Joey Glosenger earned 450. Cameron Bryington added 446.
The girls fell, 4-0. Jackie Vincent recorded a 426. Madison Randall added 405. Carolyn Arias posted a 400. Taylor Sykes posted 380.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team defeated Dryden, 56-38, Thursday, Jan. 19.
The 200 medley relay team (Brett Walters, Andy Fudala, Jacob Mayette, and Bailey Hornbrook) won first in 2:03.49. The 400 free relay team (Walters, Billy Tague, Cameron Adams, and Alec Betts) also took first in 4:07.39, while the 200 free relay team (Fudala, Betts, Kyle Frasier, and Tague) won the top spot with a time of 1:49.37.
Fudala placed first in the 50 free (26.43) and first in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.88). Betts won first in the 100 backstroke (1:10.64) and first in the 200 IM (2:28.14). Tague took first in the 500 free (5:30.92).
Personal records were set by: Rhys Stermer in the 50 free, Bailey Hornbrook in the 100 free and Noah Brewster in the 100 back.
"Tonight we honored our three seniors, Kyle Frasier, Garrett Allen and Andy Fudala," said Coach Terri Brace. "Kyle and Garret have been on the team for four years, and Andy for three years. They have all made their mark on the team over the years, and will be greatly missed next year."

Watkins Glen boys lose to Notre Dame, 50-40
WATKINS GLEN--Watkins' boys varsity basketball team was beat by Notre Dame, 50-40, Friday, Jan. 20.
Connor Seeley-Ion and Michael Doane both scored 12 points. Joseph Chedzoy added eight, while Dayne Hughey recorded four. Max Schimizzi and Alex Gibson both had two points.
The Watkins boys basketball team defeated Newark Valley, 50-42, Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Seeley-Ion scored 20 points, followed by Hughey with 10. Schimizzi earned seven and Doane six. Gibson added four points, while Chedzoy scored three.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team lost to Southern Cayuga, 53-40, Thursday, Jan. 19.
Aidan DeBolt was first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.41) and second in the 200 IM (2:18.84). Dakota Cole took first in the 200 free (2:02.06) and second in the 500 free (5:49.12). Tyler Leroux placed second in the 50 freestyle (27.00). Nathaniel Wickham took second in the 100 free (59.85). Collin Baker finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:27.63), while Rong Lin was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.77).
Girls basketball
The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team topped Notre Dame, 56-30, Friday, Jan. 20.
Mariah Gonzalez led with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Hannah Morse recorded 13 points. Amanda Pike added 11 points. Emmie Bond earned six points, while Taylor Kelly had four. Makenna Fraboni and Mikenna Ayers both scored two points.
Watkins' girls basketball team topped Newark Valley, 51-26, Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Gonzalez earned 15 points and nine rebounds. Pike added eight points, followed by Ryanna LaMoreaux and Kelly each with six. Clara Chedzoy recorded four points. Morse scored three.
Indoor track
The Watkins Glen varsity indoor track team competed in the Small School Indoor Track Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 21.
Patrick Hazlitt took first in the 1000 meter run (2:39.90, a school record). Jacob Carocci was second in the high jump (5'7"). Sam Hanley placed third in the 600 meter run (1:33.90, a personal record). Aaron Planty was third in the 1000 meter run (2:49.95). Josh Updyke finished sixth in the 55 meters (7.0).
Wrestling
The Senecas' varsity wrestling team competed in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) League Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 21.
Kameryn Sheldon (220) took second place. Dylan Bradley (120) was third in the consolation finals for Watkins Glen. Josh Bravo (195) placed fourth.
Bowling
The Watkins Glen girls varsity bowlers blanked Odessa, 4-0, while the boys won, 3-1, Friday, Jan. 20.
For the girls, Dakota Evans posted 574. Makenzie Kellogg posted a 487 and Kendra Cornish earned a 417. Nikole VanDyke bowled 401.
Steven Bradley led the boys with 578. Casen Weeden followed with a 565. Conlin Wysocki recorded a 559. John Reed contributed 488.
Watkins' girls bowlers beat Union Springs, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 19.
Evans posted a 541. Mason had 507, while Hayley Cornish recorded 459.
The boys lost 4-0. Leading the boys was Bradley with a 627. Wysocki added 587. Weeden had a 576.
