Odessa wrestlers take third at duals, win belt
ODESSA -The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed third in their own O-M Duals, Saturday, Jan. 7.
Of the six schools that competed, Odessa was 3-2. The Indians beat Thomas A. Edison, 57-24; Whitney Point, 46-36; and Groton, 48-36. Odessa lost to Dryden, 42-38, and Tioga, 43-39.
Andrew Hartford (120), Jeremiah Lynch (160), Cameron Pickering (170), Alex Repass (220), and Dylan Houseknecht (285) were all named 'Most Outstanding Wrestler' in their weight classes.
The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team defeated Watkins Glen, 33-27, to claim the Schuyler County belt Wednesday, Jan. 4.
For the Indians, Lynch (160 pounds) pinned Dalton Cummings in 1:55. Pickering (170) beat Parker Arcangeli by major decision, 13-3. Deshawn Johnson (182) won over Jordan Dillenbeck in 1:22. Houseknecht (285) pinned Ethan Voorheis in 3:47. Josiah Lynch (106) and Jacob Zimmer (145) won by forfeit.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team beat Lansing, the defending Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) and Section IV champions, in a swim meet, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 87-83.
The 400 free relay team of Cameron Adams, Micah Brewster, Brett Walters, and Billy Tague finished first. The 200 medley relay team (Alec Betts, Andy Fudala, Jake Mayette, and Tague) and the 200 free relay team (Walters, Bailey Hornbrook, Kyle Frasier, and Fudala) both were second.
Tague was first in the 100 fly and 500 free. Betts finished first in the 100 free and second in the 200 IM, while Andy Fudala took first in the 100 breast and second in the 50 free. Noah Brewster won second in the 100 back.
"It was a really exciting meet, and the entire team stepped up," said Coach Terri Brace. "Each member of the team scored valuable points. They all did what they needed to do and swam smart races. They wanted this win and they really went after it. I couldn't be more proud of them."
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Newfield, 46-35, Friday, Jan. 6.
Olivia Grover led with 16 points, going 6-for-7 at the foul line. She also recorded 14 rebounds. Nakiaha Robinson earned 12 points (10 of which were scored in the second half) and five steals. Gillian Clark and Sara Gardner both scored five points, while Sage Garrison and Kennedey Heichel each had four.
"Olivia had her best all-around game of the season and was a dominant force inside and Nakiaha really gutted out that second half with a lot of key buckets and plays for us," said Coach Greg Gavich.
With the win, Odessa's record is 10-1.
The Indians topped Groton, 61-16, Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Clark scored 18 points, followed by Grover with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Gardner added 12 points. Robinson recorded eight points, five steals, and five assists. Grace Vondracek added three points, while Heichel, Garrison, and Alexis Saunders each had two.
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team fell to Newfield, 46-36, Thursday, Jan. 5.
Zach Elliott scored 11 points. Curtis Harris followed with 10. Nick Sgrecci added seven points, while Brandon Ray earned six. Noah Austin scored two points.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour bowling teams beat Groton, Friday, Jan. 6. The boys won 4-0. Joey Glosenger led with a 562. Eric Rumsey recorded a 526. Alex Grady had a 509.
The girls won 3-1. Jackie Vincent bowled a 528. Madison Randall had a 341 and Taylor Sykes a 336.
The Odessa boys varsity bowling team beat Notre Dame, 4-0, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Leading the Indians was Grady with a 513. Glosenger added 470, followed by Trevor Dunn with 436. Andrew Ink bowled a 384 and Cameron Bryington a 382.
The girls were blanked, 4-0. Grace Edger bowled a 439. Vincent added 429, while Randall recorded 348. Kacie Wood bowled a 344, followed by Sykes with a 340.

Watkins Glen wrestlers compete at Hornell, Odessa
HORNELL--The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team competed in the State Farm Classic, Saturday, Jan. 7.
Ethan Voorheis (285) and Kameryn Sheldon (220) both placed third. Dylan Bradley (120) finished fourth.
The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team fell to Odessa, 33-27, losing the Schuyler County belt Wednesday, Jan. 4.
For Watkins, Dylan Bradley (120) won over Andrew Hartford by decision, 7-5. Sean Kelly (132) beat Collin Haag in sudden victory, 2-0. Jakob Johnson (138) pinned Gene Casselberry in 3:30. Charlie Wright (152) topped Daniel Minnier in 4:47. Josh Bravo (195) pinned Jacob Cron in 1:30. Kameryn Sheldon (220) beat Alex Repass by decision, 4-1.
Girls basketball
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team suffered the season's first loss to Waverly, 57-32, Friday, Jan. 6.
Mariah Gonzalez led with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Clara Chedzoy scored eight points, with three rebounds. Emmie Bond contributed four points and one rebound, while Taylor Kelly earned three points and one rebound. Ryanna LaMoreaux and Hannah Morse both scored twice, while Morse also assisted six times.
With the loss, the Senecas' record is now 9-1.
The Watkins girls beat Lansing, 51-27, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Amanda Pike led with 22 points, including four three-point shots. LaMoreaux added 10 points and eight rebounds. Gonzalez and Makenna Fraboni both scored five points, while Kelly added three.
Boys basketball
The Senecas' boys varsity basketball team lost to Waverly, 67-53, Friday, Jan. 6.
Leading Watkins was Max Schimizzi with 16 points. Connor Seeley-Ion scored 11 points. Alex Gibson and Michael Doane both earned eight points, while Joseph Chedzoy and Dayne Hughey each had five.
The Watkins boys beat Lansing, 39-31, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Seeley-Ion led with 12 points, followed by Schimizzi with 11. Doane added seven. Gibson scored six points and Chedzoy earned three.
Boys swimming
The Waktins Glen boys varsity swim team topped Dryden, Thursday, Jan. 5. The final score was 110-69.
Aidan DeBolt took first in the 50 freestyle (23.69) and first in the 100 butterfly (1:01.66). Dakota Cole finished first in diving (98.20) and first in the 500 freestyle (5:35.69). AJ Specchio was first in the 200 IM (2:24.48) and first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.15).
Nathaniel Wickham was first in the 100 freestyle (57.86) and second in the 50 freestyle (25.19). William Fitzsimmons took second in the 200 IM (2:41.53) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:11.17). Tyler Leroux was second in the 200 freestyle (2:23.47). Scott Brubaker finished second in diving (89.00), while Rong Lin placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.19).
Bowling
The Senecas' boys and girls varsity bowling teams both blanked Lansing, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 5.
Wrett Brower led the boys with a 587. Nathaniel Rose followed with 585. Conlin Wysocki recorded 569 and Wyatt Brower had 529.
For the girls, Dakota Evans bowled a 544. Liz Mason added 511, while Nikole VanDyke had 427.
Indoor track
The Watkins Glen varsity indoor track team competed in the Quinney Invitational at Cortland, Saturday, Jan. 7.
The 4x400 relay team (Aaron Planty, Jacob Carocci, Sam Hanley, and Patrick Hazlitt) placed second with 3:47.39, a new school record.
Hazlitt took first in the 600 meter run (1:27.38). Hanley was third in the 1600 meter run (4:45.03), followed by Planty in fifth (4:53.61). Josh Updyke took fourth in the 55 meter run (6.94). Isobel Scheffey was sixth in the 300 meter run (47.52). Carocci was third in the high jump.

Penn Yan girls lose to Aquinas; bowling wins
PENN YAN--The Lady Mustangs' varsity basketball team fell to Aquinas, 44-42, Monday, Jan. 9.
Sydney Bloom scored 13 points, followed by Emily Wunder with 12. Emalee Rose Brockman recorded six points. Elissa Callaway scored five, while Hannah Keech had four. Lizzy Lafferty added two.
With the loss, Penn Yan's record is now 5-4.
The Penn Yan girls lost to Mynderse, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 44-32.
Lafferty scored 11 points, followed by Keech with seven points. Wunder and Bloom both scored four points. Cassidy Prather and Callaway each had three points.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Hornell, 47-45, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Lafferty recorded 22 points. Bloom added 14 points, while Keech earned six. Wunder contributed four and Brockman one point.
Bowling
The Penn Yan boys varsity bowling team blanked Newark, 7-0, Friday, Jan. 6.
Steven Ottaviano led with a 678. Zack Blauvelt had 666 and Bryce Johnson added a 663. Alex Gurba bowled a 657. Jacob Whitford earned 586.
The girls fell, 7-0. Kari Ayers earned a 643, followed by Emilie Thomas with 506. Emily Augustine recorded 437. Mckelvie Jensen had a 387 and Brandee Ellis a 356.
Coach Mindy Johnson said the match resulted in the "highest totals of the season for both the girls and boys."
The Penn Yan boys varsity bowling team beat Wayne, 7-0, while the girls won 4-3, Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Johnson bowled a 607, while Whitford had 590. Gurba had 549. Ottaviano added 538.
For the girls, Ayers bowled a 553. Thomas earned 484. Augustine contributed 375.
Boys basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team was beat by Mynderse, 50-37, Friday, Jan. 6.
Desmond Battin led with nine points. Dylan Stape had eight points and nine rebounds. Ben Emerson also scored eight points.
With the loss, the Mustangs' record is 5-5.
Penn Yan's basketball team beat Wayland-Cohocton, 54-33, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Stape led with 17 points. Emerson earned 10 points, while Battin had nine.
Wrestling
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team tied for ninth in the East Rochester Duals, Saturday, Jan. 7.
The Mustangs' record at the tournament was 1-8. Penn Yan's win was against LeRoy, 53-18.
The Mustangs lost a close match to North Rose-Wolcott, 44-43 (tiebreaker), Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Riley Brittingham (126) won over Kalen Roberts by major decision, 14-2. Jarred Calice (132) pinned Devon Crum in 3:38. Caleb Plain (138) pinned Donald Abrams in 1:01. Nate Elliott (145) beat Persian Singh in 1:57. Alvaro Chavez (170) beat Kyle Kasper by decision, 8-6.
Cody Allgood (99), Damien Snyder (113), and Coty Bailey (160) all won by forfeit.

Dundee varsity wrestlers take sixth at Red Jacket
SHORTSVILLE-The Dundee varsity wrestling team placed sixth at the Red Jacket Wrestling Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 7.
Damon Empson (138) won the championship for his weight class, beating Avon's Jon Robinson by decision, 4-1. Doug Johnson (152) placed second, while Jared Jayne (160) was third. Joey Dillon (285) finished fourth. Troy Smith (152) and Brayden Eatherton (170) were fifth. Sixth place finishes included Paul Knapp (106), Kenny Empson (145) and Harry Nice (195).
The Scots' varsity wrestling team lost a close meet against Red Creek, 43-42 (tiebreaker), Thursday, Jan. 5.
Knapp (106) pinned Kodie Bracy in 1:10. Trenton Lane (132) beat Brenden Curtis in 0:21. Damon Empson (145) pinned Lawson Henderson in 1:34. Johnson (152) won by pin against Ethan Humbert in 1:06. Dillon (285) beat Evan Stone in 0:19. Eatherton (182) and Nice (195) won by forfeit.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team lost to Bloomfield, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 51-46.
Bobby Strait led with 14 points. Kyle Cratsley earned 12 points. With the loss, the Scots' record is 6-3.
Dundee's boys basketball team topped Romulus, 62-58, Wednesday, Jan. 4. Wylie Hall scored 20 points. Strait added 18.
Bowling
The Dundee girls varsity bowling team fell to Honeoye, 4-3, while the boys were blanked, 7-0, Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Liz Medina led the girls with a 409. Bri Maloy had 379, followed by Edele Morgan with a 360. Karyanna Rutledge bowled a 333.
For the boys, Jared Hartman recorded a 563. Collin Goodman earned 538. Hunter Murphy bowled a 498, followed by Connor Muck with 407.
Girls basketball
The Lady Scots varsity basketball team lost to Bloomfield, 63-20, Thursday, Jan. 5.
Mackenzie Strait scored 11 points, with two steals. Madison Neu and Megan Sutherland both recorded three points and three rebounds. Delaine Nolan earned one point.
Dundee's girls fell to Romulus, Tuesday, Jan. 3. The final score was 75-22.
Leading Dundee was Strait with seven points and three steals. Neu added five points and eight rebounds. Alyssah Newell and Mercedez Roy both had three points and three rebounds. Alexandria Wood and Delaine Nolan each scored two points.

Lakers lose to Addison, 66-44
ADDISON-The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team fell to Addison in an away game, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 66-44.
Cody Kolodziejczak led with 16 points, while Billy Whitney had 12. Both Kolodziejczak and Whitney contributed seven rebounds.
The Lakers topped Alfred Almond, 44-35, Thursday, Jan. 5. Parker Watson recorded 16 points. Luke Atkinson added eight.
