County offices move out of Rural Urban Center

SCHUYLER COUNTY—With several county departments moving out of the Rural Urban Center, Schuyler is just waiting to hear about Restore N.Y. funds to turn it into an apartment complex.
County Administrator Tim O’Hearn said the amount being applied for is $750,000.  The plan is to turn the former school into 11 apartments.  It was most recently being used to house the county clerk, treasurer, and real property tax offices.  However, they have been moving back into the county courthouse this week.
The village of Montour Falls was the entity that actually had to apply for the Restore N.Y. grant.  The application was sent out after it was approved at the March 2 village board meeting.  O’Hearn said they have not heard back about the grant.
“It should be announced any day now,” he explained.
Mayor Donna Kelley said they were expecting to hear back about the grant July 4.  She said, “it’s a waiting game.”
The project developer will be Bruce Nelson, current developer of the Montour House.  He had said the property may also be eligible for historic preservation.
Nelson had also explained that the Rural Urban Center is surplus property and that the county “wants it back on the tax rolls.”
