Police locate Penn Yan teen in Geneva
PENN YAN—Authorities found Nathaniel J. Hillyard, 17, South Avenue Penn Yan, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Geneva. Hillyard was missing for two and a half weeks. Penn Yan Police Investigator Mike Donovan said the teenager was found by Geneva police. He explained they were notified Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. He added Hillyard is being held in Ontario County Jail on bail, but was not yet given a reason why. The Geneva police department would not release any additional information besides Hillyard had been found at 8:30 a.m. near West Street. The Yates County Sheriff’s Department first issued an alert about Hillyard, Saturday, Sept. 29. Penn Yan Police Officer Jeff Morehouse said Hillyard’s mother reported her son missing. The Penn Yan Police Department issued another alert, Friday, Oct. 12, saying they had “developed information that Hillyard may still be in the Penn Yan area staying with friends.” The week before that, Donovan said Hillyard had been spotted around the village. At the time Donovan added, “he’s avoiding everybody.” As of Tuesday morning, he said the Penn Yan police didn’t really know why Hillyard went missing and wouldn’t say if he ran away from home.
