County releases preliminary budget numbers

YATES COUNTY—The Yates County Finance Committee presented a preliminary report of the county budget for 2013 during its meeting Wednesday, Sept. 5. County Administrator Sarah Purdy said the report is an extremely tentative one and is missing some of the budget’s significant costs and revenues. Purdy also said not all of the numbers are accurate and they will not have the first run of the complete budget until October.
So far the net budget for the general fund is set at $19,439,254, which Purdy said is expenses minus revenue. This is 29 percent net increase in spending from 2012, a difference of $4,325,246.
The net budget for the road fund is put at $1,067,442. The net difference from 2012’s road budget is down 63 percent, a difference of $1,851,698.
The net road machinery budget for next year is $991,712. The net difference is up 5 percent in spending, a difference of $44,150.
The net total of the three funds is set at $21,498,408. This is a 13 percent overall increase in spending from 2012, a difference of $2,517,698.
The other budget items presented by committee members during the meeting included minor increases in individual budgets due to conference expenses and photocopying costs, but nothing greatly significant.
