Yates County planning board 7/26/12
Meeting: The Yates County planning board met for one hour and five minutes Thursday, July 26. Attendance: All board members except Judy Wiltberger attended, along with 15 members of the public. Action: The board approved an area variance for an additional dwelling unit at 59 Gilbert St. in Rushville. Resident Anne Grover said she wished to construct an additional bathroom and kitchen area for her aging mother so they would not be forced to evict the tenant currently renting an apartment in the house. Board member Charles Mitchell motioned to approve it, under the condition the addition could not later be used as a rental space. • The board approved an area variance for 612 East Lake Rd. in Milo. The approved property layout included an 18 foot rear setback variance measured from new East Lake Road and 13.82 foot front yard setback measured from old East Lake Road. • The board approved a special use permit for a dog kennel at 1126 Voak Rd. in Potter. The current kennel will be moved from a rental property to the new location and will have a 30 dog capacity. Board member Karl Tober said the Martins operated in Potter for years without complaint. • The board approved a special use permit for an auto body shop and boat/machinery storage at 736 Old Glenora Rd. in Starkey. County Planner Shawna Bonshak said the applicant is moving from the state of Wyoming. The motion passed on the grounds that the number of unlicensed vehicles on the lot would be consistently monitored. • The board narrowly passed a multiple area variance for additional signage at 225 East Elm St. in Penn Yan. Board member Marion Loudon said the request for four signs on the building was garish, and Bonshak said it would set a bad precedent, but James Ritter said it would be better to approve it and “Let the village sort it out.” The motion passed in a seven to five vote. Upcoming meetings: The next Yates County planning board meeting is Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
