Village re-elects MacKerchar

PENN YAN--The Penn Yan village election, Tuesday, March 20 came with no surprises.
The uncontested election drew a small portion of the 3,000 voters in the area. Leigh MacKerchar was re-elected mayor with 110 votes. Ray Spencer and Teresa Hoban were elected village trustees with 91 votes each, replacing William Allison and Dave Reeve, both of whom did not run. Carolyn Benedict was re-elected village trustee with 85 votes.
At the village board meeting the same night, the following motions were approved:
• The Council of Churches will hold their Easter Sunrise Service Sunday, April 1 at 7 a.m. at Indian Pines.
• The Annual Yates Hunger Walk will start and end at the parking lot on Elm Street by the Wagner Sunday, May 6 at 1 p.m.
• The annual Yates County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 22nd Cruisin' Night & Block Party Friday, June 15. Main Street will be closed from Chapel to Lake Street, but the intersections at Main and Elm Streets and Main and Water/Seneca Streets will remain open. There will be no parade.
• The Penn Yan volunteer ambulance will host the second annual Memorial 5k race Saturday, May 19. It will start and end at the Ambulance Corps.
• The annual Penn Yan youth baseball and softball parade will start at the boat launch Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. and end at the sports complex.
• The hiring of Terry TenEych as a full-time police officer, starting April, 9.
The next board meeting will be Tuesday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
