Penn Yan school board 9/19/12
Meeting: The Penn Yan Central School District board of education met for one hour and 10 minutes Wednesday, Sept. 19. Attendance: All board members were in attendance along with 30 people in the audience. Action: The board passed a resolution stating Superintendent David Hamilton is certified as a qualified lead evaluator of teachers and building principals after successfully completing training requirements. This is required by the state’s new annual professional performance review. • The board declared four ping pong tables as surplus equipment, allowing the principal of the high school or athletic director to dispose of them as they see fit. Discussion without action: The board recognized all of the first year teachers from elementary up through high school levels during the meeting, welcoming them to the district with a brief ceremony. • The board encouraged everyone to attend the School Aid Issue Forum by Dr. Rick Timbs at the Elk Lodge Thursday, Sept. 27 at noon. • The board heard a brief presentation about the Academic Challenge Bowl team at the Penn Yan Middle School, saying how last year the team placed second in their division and how they are already practicing for this year’s upcoming season. Appointments/resignations: The board recognized Head Mechanic Charlie Leach during the meeting for his 35 years of service to the Penn Yan Central School District. Upcoming meetings: The next school board meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
